🕯️
This month’s content sponsor is the Friends of Salinas Pueblo Missions, who invite you to join them for the annual Luminaria de Abó on December 2, 2023. This will be a magical evening with flickering luminaria amongst the historical ruins of the San Gregorio de Abó Mission. There will be a Roman Catholic mass at 4:00 PM, followed by a posada, a traditional reenactment of the Holy Family’s search for lodging practiced in Mexico and Latin America since 1586. The public will be able to tour the grounds of the ruins amidst the flickering luminaria beginning at 5:30 PM, and there will be refreshments for all ages and piñatas for the children. This will be the largest luminaria event in Central New Mexico. Step into Fall: A Free Walking Program

Because an entire season of turkey and biscochitos approaches

Debby Maberry of the Torrance County Cooperative Extension Service - New Mexico State University (TCCES) was kind enough to share the TCCES's fall programs. The first of these, Step Into Fall, is a walking program for people of all ages and walking abilities. Step Into Fall meets on Tuesdays at 9:00 AM at the DWI Memorial of Perpetual Tears, 600 North Broadway, Moriarty, NM. For more info, contact Deanna Lopez at 505-544-4336 or dclopez@nmsu.edu or Debby at 505-544-4334 or maberryd@nmsu.edu.

Water Bath Canning Pie Making Workshop

Next is water bath canning and pie-making on Wednesday, December 6, 2023, from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM. You will need to register to attend this event, and class size is limited. Learning canning is a great way to develop a side income, such as selling salsas or jams, and learning canning without succumbing to botulism is even greater. TCCES will host a four-hour canning class at its offices at 205 9th Street, Estancia, NM 87016. To register, contact Debby Maberry at 505-544-4334 or maberryd@nmsu.edu.

ICAN: Ideas for Cooking and Nutrition

TCCES's next program is ICAN or "Ideas for Cooking and Nutrition," and will provide attendees with ideas on healthy, low-cost meal solutions, healthy lifestyle choices, and tricks to get the most out of your food budget. There are three sessions in this program, all at the Bethel Community Storehouse, 1719 Forth Street South, Moriarty, NM 87035:

  • Monday, November 13, 2023, from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM
  • Monday, November 20, 2023, from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM
  • Monday, November 27, 2023, from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM
