Watch: Our First Torrance County Commission Video Recap - July 8, 2026

July 14, 2026 - Mountainair, New Mexico

The Mountainair Dispatch is trying something new. Alongside our written coverage of local government, we are testing a video recap of Torrance County Commission meetings, starting with the board's Wednesday, July 8, 2026, regular meeting.

In roughly 12 minutes, the video covers commissioners extending the county's burn ban through the rest of summer, agreeing to serve as fiscal agent for a multimillion-dollar Central New Mexico Electric Cooperative grid upgrade, and opening a long-awaited discussion on adopting neglected private roads into the county's maintained inventory. It also covers an update on Central New Mexico Electric Cooperative's fiber internet buildout in Mountainair and Estancia, a possible paid director for the regional water association.

For the full written report, with complete quotes, context, and sourcing, read the original story on the July 8 meeting.

You will notice the voice in the video is computer-generated rather than a live host. While in the military, I sustained an injury that made consistent speech without slurring occasionally challenging. For that reason, I will sometimes use a computer-generated model of my voice instead of a live reading of the voiceover. This isn’t AI content. The robo-voice just makes it easier for me to record the video. Skynet has not yet taken over the Mountainair Dispatch.

This video is an experiment, and whether we keep making them depends on whether readers find them useful (or even preferable to my written articles). If you do, please subscribe to the Mountainair Dispatch on YouTube.

Producing video costs money and time, so if you are able to chip in, please click on this donation link or this membership link.

Residents can also check the current fire restriction status directly through the New Mexico Energy, Minerals and Natural Resources Department's Forestry Division.

The Board of County Commissioners' next regular meeting is Wednesday, July 22, 2026, at the Torrance County Administrative Building, 205 South Ninth Street, Estancia.
