Severe Thunderstorm Watch Issued for Torrance County Until 9 PM; Strong Storms Moving Through Eastern New Mexico

The National Weather Service Storm Prediction Center has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Watch, which includes Torrance County and runs until 10:00 MST this evening, Sunday, November 1, 2026. The watch also covers Colfax, Guadalupe, Lincoln, Mora, San Miguel, Santa Fe, and Socorro counties.

A watch means conditions are favorable for severe thunderstorms to develop, though not every area will see them. Residents should stay alert, keep phones charged, and be ready to move indoors quickly if a Severe Thunderstorm Warning is issued for their area.

Storms Already Moving Through the Region

A separate National Weather Service Special Weather Statement issued at 5:01 PM MST warns of a line of strong thunderstorms moving northeast at 55 mph. The storms are producing wind gusts of 50 to 55 mph, which could knock down tree limbs and blow around unsecured objects. The statement covers the Estancia Valley, Sandia and Manzano Mountains including Edgewood, Central Highlands, and Northeast Highlands, and it is in effect until 5:45 PM MST. The storms may intensify, so residents should monitor local radio and television for updates.

High Wind and Flash Flood Safety:

Secure or bring indoors outdoor items such as trash cans, patio furniture, tarps, and garden equipment. Stay away from downed power lines and report them to the utility company. If you encounter flooded roadways, **turn around, don't drown**. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles. Never park in arroyos or washes during heavy rain.
