NM 337 Bridge Replacements North of Torreon to Cause Delays Through 2027

Travelers who rely on New Mexico State Road 337 along the eastern slope of the Manzano Mountains should expect intermittent traffic delays beginning May 15, 2026, as crews begin demolishing and replacing two aging bridges north of Torreon.
According to Jim Murray, public information officer for NMDOT District 5, the project targets Bridges 5824 and 5825, both of which are scheduled to be torn down and rebuilt in place. The work carries a price tag of $8,029,660 and is expected to be completed by June 11, 2027, weather permitting — a timeline that stretches across more than a year.
To soften the impact on drivers, contractors will build detour lanes at each bridge site before demolition begins. Some delays are expected during the switchover to those detour lanes. The stated goals of the project are improved traffic flow and greater safety for motorists.
NM 337 is one of the primary routes connecting communities on the west side of the county, including Torreon and Tajique, and Tijeras and Albuquerque to the north. For residents traveling between those communities, there is no convenient alternate route that avoids significant added mileage. Drivers planning trips in the area should allow extra time and watch for construction signage.
For updates on road conditions and construction projects across New Mexico, the New Mexico Department of Transportation maintains a statewide road conditions map and project tracker at its official website.
