Battlefield Hike

New Mexico Highlands University Program: Mindfulness at Pecos National Historical Park

  • Saturday, May 18, 2024, at 2:30 PM
  • NMHU Associate Professor of Psychology Dr. David Pan and NMHU Psychology Graduate Student John Sweat will teach mindfulness exercises while enjoying the natural and historic beauty of Pecos NHP's 1.25-mile Ancestral Sites Trail. The program is free and will begin at the visitor center.

Salinas Pueblo Missions National Monument

Closures

  • Due to staffing logistics, the Quarai visitor center will be closed on 05/19.
  • Due to staffing logistics, the Abó visitor center and restrooms will be closed on 05/13, 17, 18, 19. The trails will remain open from 9 am - 4 pm. Restrooms are available at the headquarters visitor center.
  • Due to staffing logistics, Gran Quivira will close at 2:30 pm on 05/19.
  • The park will be conducting the Spanish Mission Climate Vulnerability Assessment of the Quarai Church. The church and convento will be closed to the public on 5/14-5/17. The Visitor Center, restrooms, trails, and picnic area will remain open.

Manzano Mountains State Park

Archery Skills Camp

  • Saturday, May 18, 2024, from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM
  • Manzano Mountains State Park and The New Mexico Department of Game and Fish host an annual archery skills camp. This camp covers bow hunting and basic archery skills. Participants may bring their own archery equipment or use the equipment provided. Space is limited for this camp. Participants must sign up through the New Mexico Department of Game and Fish website.

Rio Grande Nature Center State Park

Guided Bird Walk

  • Every Saturday and Sunday - 8:30 AM to 10:00 AM
  • Rio Grande Nature Center State Park, 2901 Candelaria Rd NW, Albuquerque, NM 87107. The Park’s Day-Use Fee is $3.00 per vehicle (exact cash or check). Friends of the RGNC and NM State Parks annual permit holders enter free with a valid permit displayed.
  • Participants are encouraged to bring binoculars, insect repellent, and sunscreen as needed. Meet at the Candelaria Viewing Area (Northeast side of the parking lot).
