Torrance County Commission Postpones Contract Decision

The Monday, March 30, 2026, special meeting of the Torrance County Commissioners was postponed by the commissioners before it got underway. County Attorney Michael Garcia and Torrance County Commission Chair Ryan Schwebach conferred over Zoom regarding the meeting agenda, noting that it described the special meeting as occurring on “Wednesday, March 30, 2026” rather than accurately stating that the meeting would occur on Monday, March 30, 2026. As a result, the commissioner and the county attorney agreed, it was questionable whether any decision made on March 30, 2026, would be upheld by the courts if challenged for violating the Open Meetings Act.

The commissioners set the new date for the special meeting to address the ICE contract decision to Thursday, April 2, 2026, at 10:00 AM.
