Strong Thunderstorm Tracking East Toward Edgewood and the East Mountains
The National Weather Service in Albuquerque issued a Special Weather Statement at 3:10 p.m. MDT on Thursday, October 23, 2025, warning of a strong thunderstorm moving across the East Mountains region. As of the alert, Doppler radar tracked the storm near Tijeras, about 12 miles east of Albuquerque, moving northeast at 30 mph.
The storm is capable of producing wind gusts up to 50 mph and penny-size hail.
Expected Impacts:
- Gusty winds may knock down small tree limbs and blow around unsecured outdoor items.
- Minor hail damage to vehicles or property is possible.
- Motorists may experience sudden drops in visibility and slick conditions due to hail accumulation.

Roadways Impacted:
- Interstate 40 between mile markers 168 and 189
Residents of Edgewood, the Sandia and Manzano foothills, and the western Estancia Valley should monitor local weather closely as this storm continues moving east. While not currently severe, the system could still produce strong gusts, small hail, and dangerous driving conditions.
