Severe Thunderstorm Warning Issued for West Central Torrance County

The National Weather Service in Albuquerque has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Warning for west central Torrance County, including areas near Mountainair, Willard, and Torreon, in effect until 7:15 p.m. MDT on Saturday, July 12, 2025.

At 6:36 p.m., radar detected a severe thunderstorm located 8 miles northeast of Mountainair or 13 miles southwest of Estancia, moving south at 5 mph. The storm is producing wind gusts up to 60 mph and hail up to 1 inch in diameter (quarter size).

Hazards and Impacts:

  • Hail may damage vehicles and outdoor structures.
  • Strong winds could cause damage to roofs, siding, and trees.
  • Highway 60 between Mile Markers 209 and 217 may be affected by brief visibility drops and ponding of water, creating hazardous driving conditions.

Residents in the warning area are advised to seek shelter immediately in a sturdy building and to stay away from windows. Motorists should be prepared for sudden changes in driving conditions due to wind, hail, and rainfall.
