Papa Haydn's Holiday Concert: Classics & Sounds of the Season
Join us for a joyful afternoon of holiday music featuring the Strings of the Southwest! Experience traditional classical string quartet repertoire by Haydn, Mozart, and Beethoven, plus the remarkable music of Joseph de Boulogne, son of a slave and plantation owner from the Caribbean who became director of the Paris Opera.
Known as the "father of the string quartet," Haydn composed 68 quartets that established the genre as we know it today, blending elegance, wit, and profound musical innovation. Joseph de Boulogne, also known as Joseph Bologne, Chevalier de Saint-Georges, was a polymath: a duellist, fencer, violinist, soldier, spy, and composer who broke barriers in 18th-century France, creating music of brilliant sophistication while navigating a world of racial prejudice to become one of Europe's most celebrated musicians.
