Mountainair EMS Temporarily Suspends Service for Training; Backup Coverage in Place

MOUNTAINAIR, N.M. — Mountainair EMS will be temporarily out of service from 8:00 a.m. on Wednesday, October 8, 2025, until 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 12, 2025, according to a statement shared with regional emergency service providers by EMS Chief Josh Lewis.

During this time, emergency medical coverage for the Mountainair area will be provided by the Torrance County Fire Department and the Estancia Fire Department, who have agreed to step in despite their own limited personnel and resources.

“These courses will significantly enhance the education, skills, and operational effectiveness of Mountainair EMS,” said Lewis. “Ultimately, this will benefit our community and improve our patient care capabilities.”

The department’s temporary pause in operations is due to the entire Mountainair EMS crew, including leadership, attending training courses at the EMS Expo in Socorro, New Mexico. Lewis said that the opportunity is expected to enhance the department’s emergency medical capabilities through hands-on education and skill development.

Residents in need of emergency assistance during this window should continue to dial 911; regional dispatch will then route the call to the appropriate responding agency. Lewis extended his thanks to neighboring departments and to the community for their understanding and continued support during the brief interruption in service.
