Investigations Continue in Alleged Mountainair School Assaults

LT Mark Soriano of the New Mexico State Police and Superintendent Dawn Apodaca both confirmed that the investigations into the alleged assaults at Mountainair Public Schools are ongoing.  Along with the New Mexico State Police investigation, Mountainair Public Schools has retained the DDSK Group. Apodaca described the DDSK Group as being composed of former superintendents who conduct Title IX (from the 1972 Educational Amendments to the Civil Rights Act of 1964) investigations. DDSK's findings will then be presented to University of New Mexico professor and arbitrator/Alternative Dispute Resolution expert T. Zane Reeves for resolution.

Apodaca said that the district had not been served with any tort claims notices that would indicate the intention of a student's family to sue the school district. Additionally, she said, the school had not enacted any training programs for students or staff, as they would depend on the findings of the two investigations. Thus, the matter continues, with little information released to the public due to the ongoing law enforcement investigation.
