Gusty Showers Moving Into Northwestern Torrance County

The National Weather Service in Albuquerque issued a Special Weather Statement at 3:22 p.m. MDT on Monday, September 22, 2025, warning of a line of gusty showers moving quickly east across central New Mexico. The system is expected to affect northwestern Torrance County, including the Estancia Valley, until at least 4 p.m. MDT.

At the time of the alert, Doppler radar showed the showers extending from near Mariposa to 8 miles west of Belen, moving east at 50 mph. The main hazard is wind gusts up to 50 mph.

Expected Impacts:

  • Strong gusts may knock down small tree limbs and blow around unsecured outdoor items.
  • Localized blowing dust may reduce visibility below 3 miles in open areas, creating hazardous driving conditions.
  • Sudden bursts of wind may cause difficulty for high-profile vehicles, especially on east-west routes.

Locations Affected:

  • Albuquerque
  • Rio Rancho
  • Los Lunas
  • Bernalillo
  • Belen
  • Moriarty
  • Valencia
  • Corrales
  • Los Ranchos de Albuquerque
  • Bosque Farms

Highways Impacted:

  • Interstate 40 between mile markers 148 and 199
  • Highway 60 between mile markers 197 and 207
  • Highway 550 between mile markers 1 and 7
  • Interstate 25 between mile markers 183 and 251

While much of the activity is concentrated west of Torrance County, Moriarty and the Estancia Valley may see the line of showers and gusty winds by late afternoon. Residents in Mountainair should be alert to shifting weather conditions as the system moves southeast.
