Flood Watch in Effect for Torrance County and Central New Mexico Through Tonight

The National Weather Service in Albuquerque has issued a Flood Watch for Torrance County, the Estancia Valley, and surrounding areas through late Tuesday night, October 7, 2025. The alert also includes the Sandia and Manzano Mountains, as well as Guadalupe County, De Baca County, Lincoln County, and portions of Chaves County.

Forecasters expect thunderstorms to develop over the central mountains this afternoon, moving east across Torrance County into the evening. These storms could expand and persist overnight, producing heavy rainfall and flash flooding.

Expected Impacts:

  • Flooding of creeks, rivers, and low-lying areas
  • Rapid rises in arroyos, especially those draining the Sandia and Manzano Mountains
  • Flood-prone roads and crossings may become impassable
  • Hazardous driving conditions due to ponding water or debris on roads

  • Mountainair
  • Estancia Valley communities
  • Edgewood and the Sandia/Manzano foothills
  • Eastern highland and plains routes through Guadalupe and De Baca counties

The National Weather Service warns that repeated or slow-moving storms could result in localized flash flooding, particularly along arroyos, dry washes, and poorly drained rural areas. Motorists are urged to avoid crossing flooded roadways and to remain vigilant for changing conditions throughout the night.
