Wind Advisory Issued for Torrance County and Estancia Valley on Friday
The National Weather Service in Albuquerque has issued a Wind Advisory for Friday, Feb. 20, 2026, from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM MST, affecting much of central and eastern New Mexico, including Torrance County and the Estancia Valley.
Forecasters expect west winds of 30 to 39 mph, with gusts up to 55 mph. The advisory includes the Sandia and Manzano Mountains, including Edgewood, as well as the broader Estancia Valley and surrounding highlands.
For communities such as Mountainair, Estancia, Moriarty, and Edgewood, the strongest winds are likely during the late morning and afternoon hours. Gusty conditions may blow around unsecured outdoor objects, break tree limbs, and create hazardous driving conditions.
Travel Concerns:
- Strong crosswinds are expected, particularly on north-to-south oriented roadways, including NM-41 and other exposed routes across the valley.
- Drivers of high-profile vehicles, such as semitrailers, RVs, and livestock trailers, should use extra caution.
- Sudden wind gusts may make lane control difficult on open stretches of highway.
Residents are encouraged to secure outdoor items ahead of the wind increase and remain alert for falling debris.
