Severe Thunderstorm Warning Issued for North Central Torrance County

The National Weather Service in Albuquerque has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Warning for north central Torrance County and southern Santa Fe County, in effect until 7:15 p.m. MDT on Saturday, July 12, 2025.

At 6:28 p.m., a severe thunderstorm was reported over Edgewood, approximately 9 miles northwest of Moriarty, moving southeast at 25 mph. The storm is producing ping pong ball-size hail (1.5 inches in diameter) and wind gusts up to 60 mph. The hail threat has been confirmed by public reports, while radar indicates damaging winds.

Expected Hazards:

  • Hail may cause significant damage to vehicles, roofs, windows, and siding.
  • Wind gusts may bring down trees and damage buildings and power lines.
  • Injury is possible for people and animals caught outdoors.

  • Stanley
  • McIntosh
  • Cedar Grove

Roadways Affected:

  • Interstate 40 between Mile Markers 185 and 208

Motorists are advised to drive with extreme caution as accumulated hail may create slick and dangerous driving conditions. Residents in the affected area should take immediate shelter in a sturdy building, stay away from windows, and prepare for possible power outages.

This storm is capable of producing destructive hail and strong winds, and further intensification is possible.
