Severe Thunderstorm and Flash Flood Warning in Effect

The National Weather Service in Albuquerque has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Warning for east-central Torrance County until 5:45 p.m. MDT Sunday, May 4, 2025. Similarly, a flash flooding alert for arroyos in the Albuquerque area has been issued. Nonetheless, it is likely that there will be flooding impact in the Mountainair area.

As of 5:04 p.m., radar detected a severe thunderstorm approximately 8 miles south of Encino, or 18 miles west of Vaughn, moving north at 25 mph. The storm is producing wind gusts up to 60 mph and small hail.

Impacted Highways:

  • Highway 285 between Mile Markers 223 and 228
  • Highway 60 between Mile Markers 242 and 262

The storm may cause damage to roofs, siding, and trees, and torrential rainfall associated with it could lead to flash flooding in low-lying areas.

Safety Recommendations:

Avoid driving through flooded roads, as water may be deeper than it appears and could stall or sweep away vehicles.
